Building a Network of Care

Care Possible brings stability, peace of mind, and fun into one family’s life.

Balancing a full-time job while ensuring her teenage son Leo receives the care he needs has been a constant challenge for Julie. The stress of finding the right kind of support for her son had often left her feeling overwhelmed.

“There have been times I have come close to quitting my job because I can’t deal with the stress of my work and finding care for Leo,” she says. “It’s the biggest stress of my life—finding good care for my son.”

Julie and her husband had been relying on friends and acquaintances for care, but it was often inconsistent. After going without respite care for several months, they knew they needed a dependable solution. They turned to Care Possible, hoping to build a network of care providers who could support Leo’s before and after school care and bring much-needed stability to their lives

Together, Julie and her husband went through the process of finding the right fit for Leo.

“We sat down together and looked through all the applicants to our job posting. We went through resumes and all the security checks to find the best fit,” she explains. “We teed up some interviews and went with our favourite. She’s been fantastic.

That favourite was Sandra, who quickly became an integral part of Leo’s life. Over the summer, Sandra and Leo explored new activities, tried their hand at cooking, took walks downtown close to his home, and would utilize the apartment’s rooftop to blow bubbles.

“Sandra is a fantastic motivator,” Julie says. “One of the things we specifically asked during the interviews was, ‘How will you keep him active and engaged, especially when he’s resistant to getting outside?’”

The family’s care network expanded when they hired a second care provider, Crosdale, who cares for Leo during shorter, harder-to-fill after school shifts. Beyond providing care, Crosdale has developed a meaningful relationship with Leo, highlighting the importance of connection.

"Leo is always asking ‘When am I going to see him?’ He gets excited to know when he's coming over.”

Preference-based, reliable care is critical for families like Julie’s. It ensures there is no gap in his support, and allows him to create authentic relationships. In building this team of support, Julie has created a support system that adapts to their family’s needs, offering greater peace of mind.

“Having someone I know will be on time, will be there for Leo, and is very accommodating to changing hours and schedules doesn’t completely eliminate the stress, but it definitely has greatly reduced it.”
